Critique of the Performance Management Process

The Performance Management Process is a continuous process that includes several components. These components are closely related, and a dysfunctional or disrupted link between any of the components has a negative effect on the system as a whole.

Choose two components of the process and write a paper addressing the following.

1.How are the two components related? What are their interdependencies?
2.What is the employee’s role in each component?
3.What is the manager’s role in each component?
4.What is the temporal relationship between the components?
5.What are the negative effects if the components are poorly implemented?

The Wealth Gap

The Wealth Gap

For this discussion, answer the following questions, using the course material assigned this week (your readings or the data in the multimedia piece, Economic Inequality) to support your conclusions.

Why is it important to examine wealth along with income when studying inequality? Be sure to discuss how the measure of wealth differs from income, as well as key trends.
How is wealth distributed? What groups of people have wealth in the United States? For example, is it evenly distributed, or do some people hold the majority of the wealth? If so, who are they?
What impact does race or ethnicity have on an individual’s ability to access certain jobs, or the types of jobs that offer upward mobility?
Americans often claim that individuals should be willing to accept any job, but what part do cultural beliefs play in the motivation to accept and keep a low-income job? What are the social costs of this? Do these outweigh the potentially meager income benefits?

What Mentors Wish Their Mentees Knew

Choose one of the selected articles (from Moodle – Assessment 2 Section, Articles for Essay folder) 2. Read the article – at least twice • First, familiarize yourself with the content • Next, try to identify management topics from the lecture program which are relevant, and any issue(s) or key concepts discussed in the article 3. Provide a brief summary of the issue(s) or concepts, and how you will link these to the remaining essay 4. Use relevant management concepts and theories as the ‘lens’ through which you critically evaluate and analyse any issue(s) or concepts 5. Recommend, based on further academic research: • If there are any issues discussed – any different approach that might be taken to resolve the issue, and explain why OR • How key points raised in the article link to specific aspects of theory that you have learnt 6. Your ability to link concepts and theories to real life examples, and argue your opinion based on evidence, is important here 7. Formatting of essay. Your essay should be formatted as follows: • UOWD Cover Sheet • Font Type Arial/Times New Roman • Font Size 10 – 12pt • Line Spacing 1.5 or double-line spacing • Reference list must be included and should adhere to point 9 below (also part of the grading categories) The essay should consist of an introductory paragraph which makes reference to the original article, any issues or key points identified, and then an explanation of what will be discussed throughout the essay ? The main body of the essay should combine a discussion of the identified problem areas or key concepts, with your understanding of relevant theories – you should add examples of how theory can be applied to the real world (e.g. what types of leadership theory you can identify from your article, and then examples of people with those traits today) ? The next section (conclusion/summary) should summarize your discussion, and link it with the introduction – this is where you demonstrate how your discussion has answered or acknowledged how you would correct the issues you have identified ? The final section of the essay is a “Reference List” which must start on a new page – see point 9 below • Consult the guidelines below while doing your written assignment, as well as the UOWD Short Guide to Referencing. • Advice on what constitutes an academic journal is available from the Ulrich’s database. See http://www.library.uow.edu.au/databases/UOW026429.html#u. Look at the tips section first. • You will also find the following guide of use: ? SASS STUDY GUIDE: Writing Academic Essays and Research Papers 8. You are reminded that this is an individual essay. It should not be created within a group. You are advised not to share your essay, or parts of it, with other students – this is known as collaboration and constitutes academic misconduct. 9. A reference list of the information sources used in accordance with Harvard Referencing technique. Examples of issues that you might explore include any of the areas covered in the weekly lectures: change that has occurred in organizations due to globalization, alternative approaches to management, change and innovation management, organizational culture etc. You should include (and use in-text citation), as a minimum, 9 references: • 6 journal articles • (2 academic textbooks) • and the article itself 10. Please do communicate with your Lecturer or Teaching Assistant for any queries related to completing your essay. You may meet during Consultation Hours, or by arranging an appointment directly with them. 11. If your essay should exceed the word limit (1500 words with no tolerance above this maximum point), then it will only be graded up to the upper limit, further content will not be read
